About

This is the new home of an old blog1.

I go by “Yuuka” online, and this blog serves as an outlet for my photography hobby. Sometimes I’ll muse about life here as well.

My first camera was a Sony DSC-W55, and I used it pretty frequently for years after its release until unfortunately the focus failed2. After that I only took photos with my phone camera, until May of 2023, when I bought myself a new Sony mirrorless camera.

I’ve always liked taking “pretty” photos of specific scenes on trips, but I got tired of fighting the auto adjustments from the phone camera software. The final push to buying a proper camera was being frustrated with how fountain pen ink3 colors could not be correctly captured on a phone.

My goal for this blog is to showcase (mostly to myself) the photos I take on trips and everyday scenes. I’m still not certain what the best format is: photo dump or interlaced musings. Sometimes entries will switch the format around depending on my mood.

On the whole, selective, more organized photos will be posted here, while more free-form photos are dumped and shared on my instagram log. Photos are all unedited, straight out of camera unless specifically stated otherwise.

Footnotes
  1. “Eternity in an Instant” has lived on sunspear.org and blog.aurenen.org before the current url location. Prior to that, I’ve had a personal blog since I was in middle school. ↩︎
  2. I don’t know why the focus stopped working, but I kept the camera, and on a return visit to my mom’s house, I dug it out and it’s still functional! The focus miraculously starting working again, so I could technically take photos with it again. ↩︎
  3. One of my other hobbies is journaling, and using various fountain pen inks. Sailor’s Yurameku ink line is my favorite. The dual tone was really difficult to capture on a phone camera, especially on the basic camera app. I’ve played around with the “Pro” camera app settings, when you can manually control ISO and shutter speed, and it’s much closer to actual appearance, but still pretty annoying to achieve. ↩︎
